Location 289 miles NNE of Noumea, New Caledonia
Movement 180° (S) at 4 knots
Maximum sustained winds 60 knots gusting to 75 knots

Cook will move south, through Vanuatu, whilst intensifying to 85 knots. The storm will veer southwest, later southeast and pass close to New Caledonia's Grande Terre island, before becoming extra-tropical.

Regional warnings
The Vanuatu Met Office  advises that a RED ALERT is in force for Malampa and Shefa provinces, with a Blue Alert in force for Tafea province. Damaging winds, very rough seas, heavy swells, heavy rainfall and flooding can be expected. Please monitor local government output, as linked from the VMO site.

Meteo France advises that the entire territory of New Caledonia is on a pre-alert for a tropical cyclone. Please note: site in French.
