Winds of 34 knots or higher occur within 30 to 50 miles of the centre

Merbok formed earlier today and is moving northnorthwest towards mainland China. The storm will track overland and veer east. The storm will peak at 40 knots before landfall, and is expected to restrengthen to 35 knots before dissipating over water east of China.
