Winds of 34 knots or higher occur within 205 miles to the north and east of the centre

Cindy is moving northwest through the Gulf of Mexico. It will make landfall near the Louisiana / Texas border on Thursday.

Regional warnings
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect from San Luis Pass (Texas) to the mouth of the Mississippi River.

Rainfall totals of 6 to 9 inches, locally up to 12 inches, over southeastern Louisiana, southern Mississippi, southern Alabama, and the Florida Panhandle. This could cause life-threatening flash-floods. Rainfall should spread
northeastward across Arkansas and into portions of the Tennessee and Ohio Valleys through Friday, with total rain accumulations of 3 to 5 inches with locally higher amounts possible.

Totals of 3 to 5 inches with isolated locally up to 6 inches can be expected farther west across western Louisiana and eastern Texas.

Inundations of 1 to 3 feet can occur as a result of storm surge in the warning area; in addition to that, also from southeastern Louisiana to the western Florida Panhandle.

Tornadoes are possible from the western Florida Panhandle across southwest Alabama, southern Mississippi and southern Louisiana.
