Winds of 34 knots or higher occur within 140 miles to the east of the centre

Next warning from NHC at 1200 GMT

Alberto is moving northnortheast off the Yucatan peninsula, but will move into the Gulf of Mexico. After making landfall, the system will proceed to dump large amounts of rain over the southeastern USA.

A tropical storm watch is in force from Tulum to Cabo Catoche, Mexico, and for the Cuban province of Pinar del Rio; from Indian Pass FL to Grand Isle LA, and for Lake Pontchartrain and Lake Maurepas
A storm surge watch is in force from Horseshoe Beach to the mouth of the Mississippi River, giving 2 to 4 feet of inundation above groundlevel
Rainfall totals of 10 to 15 inches, locally up to 25 inches, are expected over northeastern Yucatan peninsula and western Cuba. Life-threatening mudslides and flash floods are to be expected. The Florida Keys and southern and southwestern Florida can expect 3 to 7, locally up to 10 inches.
