Warning 16 from NHC at 1500 GMT
Position 33.1N 73.1W
Location 200 miles SE of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina
Movement 050° (NE) at 8 knots
Maximum sustained winds 60 knots gusting to 75 knots
Winds of 34 knots or higher occur within 70 miles of the centre
Minimum central pressure: 993 mbar

Next warning from NHC at 2100 GMT

Chris will gradually strengthen as it remains slow-moving off the NC coast. After today, the system will head off northeast whilst strengthening to 75 knots. Chris will become extra-tropical near Newfoundland.

Life-threatening surf and rip-tide conditions will affect the coasts of North Carolina and the mid-Atlantic States.
